Bonsoir,

Dear Mr. Andrieux,
Thank you very much for your kind e-mail.
"Cinematographers" is still a project in progress: we are at the moment negotiating with our strategic partners and publishers plus financing the production of last photos in China, Japan, Australia, Mexico and Argentina.
The publication of the book and launch of the touring exhibition is scheduled for 2012. I will most gladly keep you updated on the development (we still have a few missing photos to take in France, like planned since a long time portrait of Raoul Coutard - hopefully we can finally realise it in September 2010).
Best regards to you, your student and the whole forum community.
Yours sincerely,

CINEMATOGRAPHERS
the collection of portraits of cinematographers around the world
by Piotr Jaxa
www.jaxa.com
CINEMATOGRAPHERS is a collection of portraits of directors of photography around the world. Piotr Jaxa, a Polish-Swiss cinematographer and photographer, has been working on this project since 1995.
The idea is to create an independent selection of portraits of artists who, playing crucial role in the filmmaking process (very often being true co-creators of the film), are almost not known by the general public. It's not about trying to create new film celebrities or denying the central role of a director, but making viewers a bit more aware of how the movies are really made: that they are a huge COMMON effort. But - first of all - it's a tribute to the authors of image who inspired many people's way of thinking about film and, in consequence, our way of seeing the world.
Through these pictures Piotr is always seeking to touch/suggest the source of sensitivity and creative passion of its hero. Therefore the choice of the location where the photo is taken as well as close collaboration with photographed cinematographer on lighting and framing, is of the highest importance. This is why Jaxa travels to the countries where the artists he admires live and likes to call the environmental portraits he takes "photographic interviews".
So far (June 2010) Piotr Jaxa has had an honour to collaborate with 111 cinematographers in 23 countries on 4 continents.
Thank you very much for your kind e-mail.
